The focus of his work has been in Ethiopia, where the Himalayan Cataract Project continues to support the formal training of Ethiopian oculoplastic surgeons. This is achieved by facilitating Ethiopian doctors to come to the US for an observership, which is followed by hands-on training in Nepal.

As of two years ago, there was only one formally trained oculoplastic surgeon in Ethiopia for its 100 million inhabitants. However, the third Ethiopian oculoplastic surgeon will finish his training this year.
